How to Measure Your Floor

Below is a quick guide to working out how many square metres of flooring you need for your room.
123flooring.co.uk suggests you allow an additional 5% for wastage. (When you use our calculator to work out how much you require, it automatically allows 5% wastage).

Standard Room

  1. Find the two widest areas (a,b)
  2. Multiply the two sizes
  3. 4.35 x 5.25 = 22.83m2
  4. Total metres required 22.83

L Shaped Room

  1. Divide room into two rectangular sections (see plan)
  2. Take the four sizes and multiply as below
  3. 2.33 x 5.25 = 12.23m2 and 1.75 x 4.25 = 7.43m2
  4. Add the two sizes together
  5. 12.23 + 7.43 = 19.76m2
  6. Total metres required 19.76

3 Way Room/Hallway

  1. Divide room into three rectangular sections
  2. Take all sizes and multiply them as below...
  3. 1.10 x 1.75 = 1.925m2
    1.10 x 1.75 = 1.925m2
    5.00 x 1.00 = 5.00m2
  4. Add the three sizes together
  5. 1.925 + 1.925 + 5.00 = 8.85
  6. Total metres required 8.85m2
